Haemodialysis is a vital life sustaining therapy for patients with established renal failure (ERF) and acute kidney injury (AKI). However it can cause life threatening problems if the dialysis water is contaminated.
UK Renal Association guidelines recommends monthly monitoring of microbial contamination – “Clinical Practice Guidelines issued by the UK Renal Association and Renal Transplantation . Guidelines 5.2 and 5.3 -Microbiological contaminants in product water used for the preparation of dialysis fluid”
The guidelines state: low flux dialysis water shall contain a total viable microbial count of less than 100 CFU/ml and an endotoxin concentration of less than 0.25 EU/ml; high flux dialysis water shall contain a total viable microbial count of less than 0.1 CFU/ml and an endotoxin concentration less than 0.03 EU/ml.
HSL provides a rapid and reliable testing service, currently testing dialysis water for one of the UK”s busiest dialysis centers.
“First class service. Nothing was too much trouble” -Renal Technician, SW Thames Renal & Transplantation Unit.
HSL provides local hospitals and patients with home dialysis units a water testing service.
The dialysis water testing service we provide includes total viable counts and endotoxin levels, assayed using international external quality assessment. The quality of the water is judged against the criteria specified in the UK Renal Association Clinical Practice Guidelines”.
HSL can also perform your weekly chlorine testing (Clinical Practice Guidelines issued by the UK Renal Association and Renal Transplantation . Guidelines 4.1-4.4).
